DEVIL’S TAXI
I see the leaves, they're turning brown
The sky an awful shade of amber
We went walking down, Sherwood Forest
Didn’t see Friar Tuck or Little John
Chorus:
I’m in a Devil’s Taxi
It's taking me, ‘round & ‘round
I’m in a Devil’s Taxi
Taking me further down
I’m in a Devil’s Taxi
With a stone stuck in my shoe
Got my gear loaded, gonna make some money
Gonna pay some dues
Chorus:
I’m in a Devil’s Taxi
It’s taking me ‘round and ‘round
I’m in a Devil’s Taxi
Taking me further down
The Sheriff said, “He’s a robber all the same”
“Gonna hang him up, gonna watch him dangle”
But with this arrow, I’m gonna pierce the Sheriff’s heart
Should be apples for the poor not just the rich and tart
Chorus:
I’m in a Devil’s Taxi
It’s taking me ‘round and ‘round
I’m in a Devil’s Taxi
Taking me further down
I see the leaves, they're turning brown
The sky an awful shade of amber
And we went walking down Sherwood Forest
Didn’t see Friar Tuck or Little John

44 BELOW
Hear the crunch of the snow under my feet
The world is all white, can’t miss a beat
Can’t feel the rope ‘cause my fingers are numb
It’s forty below boys - no sign of the sun
We left everything on this foolish odyssey
No sign of Ulysses or Hercules
Searchin’ for gold, we got storm stayed below
Saw dead men sittin’ down, dead eyes starin’ at the snow
Chorus:
Tramp the snow down boys, tramp the snow down
Forty miles ov’r this mountain to the next town
Forty-four below boys, Forty-four below
There’ll be whisky and a fire to warm up your toes
The pines stand like sentries guarding the pass
The Moon was our spotlight but refused to last
We’re good prairie boys that got bent out of shape
Got yellow gold fever from a man with a cape
So squint your eyes boys, lookee through the wooden slits
Carry your burden there’ll be bacon and grits
We’ve gone too far to end up like this
Another Unfortunate, lying in the ditch
Chorus:
Tramp the snow down boys, tramp the snow down
Forty miles ov’r this mountain ‘til we make the next town
Forty-four below boys, forty-four below
There’ll be whisky and pretty women to warm up your toes
We finally made Dawson, what a marvelous sight
Twinklin’ lights in bar windows, played the fiddle all night
Tomorrow stake our claim like good Moose Jaw boys
Wake up like Christmas morning, little kids playin’ with toys
Chorus:
Tramp the snow down boys, tramp the snow down
Forty miles ov’r this mountain to make the next town
Forty-four below boys, forty-four below
There’ll be whisky and pretty woman to warm up your toes
Hear the crunch of the snow under my feet
The world is all white, can’t miss a beat
Can’t feel the rope ‘cause fingers are numb
It’s forty-four below boys no sign of the sun
It’s forty-four below boys no sign of the sun
It’s forty-four below boys no sign of the sun

Tom Mix

TOM MIX
Tom and my Dad worked clearing bush
Tom the roughest fella I’d ever crossed paths
He smelled a mixture of cow manure and chewin’ tobacco
That he frequently spat on the ground
Tom and my Dad worked silently all day
Except for the buzzing “Pioneer” chainsaw
Tom lifted trees without jigs
Over his shoulder
Just like they were little twigs
The three of us would stop for our lunch
Sitting on rain soaked fallen logs
Drinking coffee, from aluminum thermos
That’s where I got a first taste of chewin’
Chorus:
Old Tom Mix was a mighty fine fella
Swung an axe like cutting through butter
Lived alone in a shack near Devil’s Glen a time
He was good to friend of mine
One day cutting, guess God wasn’t looking
Big tree fell knocking Tom flat as hay
He got up but was never quite the same
He never worked with my Dad much again
I miss Old Tom Mix, he was a real friend
Taught me to stay out of the way
Taught me to run for your life when you hear the word “Timber”
I still hear him say
Chorus:
Old Tom Mix was a mighty fine fella
Swung an axe like he was cutting through butter
Lived alone in a shack near Devil’s Glen a time
He was a good friend of mine
He was a good friend of mine
He still is a good friend of mine.
Well I ain’t just looking back
I’m trying find a way forward
And tell you what got me here
If it wasn’t for Old Tom Mix
And that mighty Mad River
I wouldn’t have much to say

Lake Superior Sunset
05:08

New single released on July 11, 2023
LAKE SUPERIOR SUNSET
Saw a radio tower
Looked down at my phone
The bars showed a connection
I made a call home
Just called to tell you
How beautiful was the sunset
Over Lake Superior
Left me breathless
Chorus: Lake Superior Sunset, the most beautiful in the world
I want to show it to you baby, want you to feel what I feel
Lake Superior Sunset, the most beautiful in the world
I want to show it to you baby, want you to feel what I feel
I’ve been alone on this trip
But never far apart
The name I keep for you
Is the name I hold in my heart
Won’t be long, ‘til I come sailing in
Bringin’ my love inside
Lay down beside you
Make us feel alive
Chorus: Lake Superior Sunset, the most beautiful in the world
I want to show it to you baby, want you to feel what I feel
Lake Superior Sunset, the most beautiful in the world
I want to show it to you baby, want you to feel what I feel
Sit down beside me, we’ll watch the waves curl
Saw a radio tower
Looked down at my phone
The bars showed a connection
I made a call home
Just called to tell you
How beautiful was the sunset
Over Lake Superior
Left me breathless
Chorus:
Lake Superior Sunset, the most beautiful in the world
I want to show it to you baby, want you to feel what I feel
Lake Superior Sunset, the most beautiful in the world
I want to show it to you baby, want you to feel what I feel
Sit down beside me, we’ll watch the waves curl
The most beautiful in the world
Sit down beside me, we’ll watch the waves curl.

Talkin' In LIne

TALKIN’ IN LINE
Big line
At the License Renewal
Woman turned to me
Said don’t be cruel
Waiting in line
At the grocery store
Had six bags of fries
She said, “you’re gonna need some more”
Chorus: :Talkin’ in line, talkin’ in line
Do it all the time, just talkin’ in line:
Same Licensing office
Man turns to me
Says, “My French ain’t good seems they want my organs please” - “merci”
People get weird
And start climbing trees
Fall down a lot
And scrape their knees
Chorus: :Talking in line, talking in line
Do it all the time, just talking in line:
When I was little kid
Goin’ to school
Had to line up a lot
Those were the rules
My least favourite
Got in trouble most times
You guessed it
“No talkin’ in line!!”
Chorus: Talking in line, talking in line
Do it all the time, just talking in line
Talking in line, talking in line
Do it all the time
Just talking in line (stop)
I was knock’in on the door
Of the “Pearly Gates”
St. Peter said to me
“Why you late”?
I told him truth
Just wasn’t my time
He said, “That’s bull”
You were talkin’ in line ( full stop)
Chorus: Talking in line, talking in line
Do it all the time, talking in line
Talking in line, talking in line
Do it all the time
Just talking in line

Jonah

JONAH
Put your head out the window
Blue prairie sky swallows you whole
It’s like a story from the good book
Jonah got swallowed by the whale
When I was just a little kid
Ridin’ shotgun in my Daddy’s truck
Starin’ at the wheat fields
And my Dad’s hands on the steering wheel
CHORUS: We can all stop pretending
Maybe cease comprehending
Maybe if we’d stop sending
Our buried fears, thus suspending
Put your head out the window
And you’ll see for yourself
There’s only a few rules that can hold you
But nothing can stop you from being yourself
Just the other day
My Dad appeared as a passenger
We stared at the frozen lakes and he said,
“Keep both hands on the steering wheel.”
CHORUS: We can all stop pretending
Maybe cease comprehending
Maybe if we’d stopped spending
It’d make a difference to the ending
We’re all in the big blue
We’re all in the big blue
We’re all in the big blue
Put your head out the window
Blue prairie sky swallows you whole
It’s like a story from the Good Book
Jonah got swallowed by the whale

Collingwood Girl

COLLINGWOOD GIRL
I was riding the Western Frontier
When I ran into a Collingwood girl
She was riding a buckskin pony
Her name was Claire
We talked about the hometown
About going to the Great Northern Fair
Riding that Salt n’ Pepper Shaker
Gettin’ all tossed up in the air
CHORUS: Nothin’ makes you home sicker
Than talkin’ to a Collingwood girl
Nothin’ puts the “L” in lonesome quicker
Than talkin’ to a Collingwood girl
We barely conversed
Shared hot tea over the fire
There was an understanding
That went beyond desire
The embers burned down
But not the fire
That’s what you git
When you talk wit, a Collingwood girl
CHORUS: Nothin’ makes you home sicker
Than talkin’ to a Collingwood girl
Nothin’ puts the “L” in lonesome quicker
Than talkin’ to a Collingwood girl (repeat 2X )

This Old Hammer

THIS OLD HAMMER
Down at the Public House
`Talking “double-dutch”
Man asked me what I’m up to
I said not much.
Fixin’ my daughter’s room
Washed out by the flood
Not the daughter from my first
But blood on blood
Puttin’ up drywall
Truth be told
Puttin’ up insulation
Keep away the cold
Using my Dad’s tools
Like he’s standin’ beside me
Man said, “he got it ya- picture he could see”
CHORUS: This old hammer seen a lot of nails
This old hammer raised a lot of sails
This old hammer ‘round when I’m gone
This old hammer even built this song.
Rememberin’ Dad’s hands
Sound ringing stee;
Ardox and straight
What is fake what is real
Sittin’ on the barn roof
Seein’ the wide wide world
Measurin’ twice cuttin’ once I was told
Saws and chisels
Levels too
Built myself a work shed
To get out of the blue
Love this old hammer
Nail gun won’t do
Guess I’m my Father’s son
Through in through
CHORUS: This old hammer seen a lot of nails
This old hammer raised a lot of sails
This old hammer - ‘round when I’m gone
This old hammer even built this song.
Gonna sit down
Have a beer
Gonna rag off
My dog’s ear
She listens to me
When others don’t
Best friend I ever had
And that ain’t no joke.
CHORUS: This old hammer seen a lot of nails
This old hammer raised a lot of sails
This old hammer - ‘round when I’m gone
This old hammer even built this song
Outro: Down at the Cameron House
` Talking “double-dutch”
Man asked me what I’m up to
I said not much

Always Springtime

|

ALWAYS SPRINGTIME
I’ve had it up to here, don’t’ come around here anymore
Baby, that was the last straw, when you walked out that door
You thought I’d welcome you back, like I did many times before
But I’ve had it up to here, don’t come ‘round me anymore
You treated me like a fool, ‘cause I was one yesterday
You thought I’d never learn, ‘cause I never learned before
This time something snapped, and the tears came fallin’ down
I’ve had it up to here, don’t come ‘round me anymore
Chorus:
You act like it’s always springtime, summer about to start
But you miscalculated my dear, now you’re in the dark
That train has left the station, two lights on behind
A green one and a red one, still you never left my mind
I hear that lonesome whistle like a childhood melody
I think of you always in springtime now the leaves have fallin’ from the
trees.
Chorus:
You act like it’s always springtime, summer about to start
But you miscalculated my dear, now you’re in the dark
I’ve had it up to here, don’t’ come around here anymore
Baby, that was the last straw, when you walked out that door
You thought I’d welcome you back, like I did many times before
But I’ve had it up to here, don’t come ‘round me anymore
Chorus:
You act like it’s always springtime, summer about to start
But you miscalculated my dear, now you’re in the dark
You act like it’s always springtime, summer about to start
But you miscalculated my dear, now you’re in the dark

Long Run

LONG RUN
In the long run, little things don’t matter
In the long run, big things are easy put your feet to the fire
If your eggs come back and they ain’t over easy
Boohoo, ain’t it a tragedy
In the long run just my heart been foolin’ me
In the long run it’s the wind through the trees that moves me
In the long run it’s ‘bout jumpin’ off that cliff into the deep
It’s about lookin’ in the fire, it’s seein’ what you can see
In the long run, it’s all a mystery
CHORUS:
In the long run we’re standing
We’re all standing proud
In the long run, it’s the running
That echoes loud
In the long run, we all hope it turns out good
In the long run may all our mistakes get buried in the dirt
There’s no point of holdin’ on, no point of beating it with a stick
In the long run we all know
It was just a trick
CHORUS:
In the long run we’re standing
We’re all standing free
In the long run it’s the running towards a mystery
In the long run
We’re all standing proud
In the long run it’s the running that echoes loud
In the long run it’s the running
That echoes, echoes, echoes, echoes loud.
